Extrait n°1 : « Le matin »

Cette musique est douce, légère (aérienne) et assez mélancolique. Elle débute par un dialogue entre la flûte traversière et le hautbois. Puis la musique s’intensifie (crescendo) jusqu’à ce que le thème soit repris par les violons, soutenu par le reste de l’orchestre. La musique devient alors grandiose et majestueuse.

Extrait n°2 : « La mort d’Aase »

Il s’agit d’une musique triste et lente avec une ambiance funèbre. Elle n’est jouée que par les instruments à cordes et le thème est aux violons. La musique est répétitive et l’on note des crescendos qui rendent l’atmosphère encore plus pathétique ou dramatique.

Extrait n°3 : « La danse d’Anitra »

Cet extrait est plus dynamique et entraînant que les précédents. Il s’agit d’une valse dont la mélodie est jouée alternativement par les cordes en pizzicati et en « arco » (joué avec l’archet).

L’ensemble varie entre passages romantiques et mélancoliques (arco) et passages plus espiègles et humoristiques (pizzicati).
